Look under most 2014 - 2018 RZR XP's, just below the driver seat, and you’ll see the RZR’s main electrical system. The voltage regulator, main fuse block & vehicle wiring harness are all hanging down, exposed, under the RZR. Polaris moved the regulator to the front of the vehicle in 2016 for the XP Turbo, and in 2017 for the XP 1000 & XP-4 1000, but they have still left the fuse block and main wiring harness exposed under these machines. This may be convenient for Polaris when they build the RZR, but it is far from optimum for riding off-road where water, mud, rocks and sticks frequently bounce off the bottom of the RZR. Not only are all of these electrical parts exposed to the trail underneath the vehicle, they are also exposed to the left rear tire which throws large amounts of water, mud and rocks directly onto these fragile electrical components.
Thunderhawk Performance has offered this Electrical System & Voltage Regulator Guard since the introduction of the 2014 RZR XP 1000 models to protect their electrical system, and our customers have avoided the failures that were so common on RZR's when these electrical components were left exposed. In fact, Polaris has recalled the 2014-2016 RZR XP 1000 & XP-4 1000 models to replace fuse block gaskets and voltage regulators to help reduce problems that are caused primarily by the location of these components. However, these new "recall" parts are still mounted in the same location and are still exposed under the RZR where they are subjected directly to water, mud and trails debris. When the rear tire deposits mud onto the regulator, the mud does not allow the finned aluminum regulator body to dissipate heat as it was designed, which leads to overheating and failure of the regulator. Water intrusion occurs when the water thrown by the rear tire enters the regulator body around the wiring harness. Some people have also experienced electrical problems due to corrosion in the fuse block and wiring harnesses, which can happen rather quickly when a coating of mud holds moisture on these parts and they cannot dry-out as intended. Another potential problem is that a stick kicked-up under the RZR can damage the main vehicle wiring harness and fuse block or the voltage regulator if these components are left exposed.
Thunderhawk Performance invented the RZR fuel tank guard in 2007 to protect the RZR gas tank which is similarly exposed under the passenger seat of your RZR XP1000 or XP Turbo, so we are not new to designing effective protection for the RZR. For this Electrical System & Voltage Regulator Guard, Thunderhawk Performance spent considerable time designing and testing this guard to provide the maximum strength and protection from water, mud & trail debris, while incorporating specially designed airflow vents for voltage regulator cooling (for 2014 - 2016 models). This Electrical System & Voltage Regulator Guard is constructed of strong aircraft aluminum (skid plate material) just like our fuel tank guards, not soft ornamental aluminum or plastic, and is mounted in a similar fashion so that it will stand-up to all of the hard trail-use that you may encounter. The Thunderhawk Electrical System & Voltage Regulator Guard mounts directly to the frame for strength and provides protection from water, mud, rocks and debris thrown by the rear tire as well as protection for the fuse block, main wiring harness and voltage regulator from rocks, sticks and heavy mud to which they would otherwise be exposed from the trail below.
The Thunderhawk Performance RZR Electrical System & Voltage Regulator Guard installs easily in about 15 minutes. This part is available in bare aluminum or with optional black powdercoat finish (adds $10.00). This is a complete kit including the electrical system guard, all necessary hardware and illustrated instructions. Kits are available for all 2014 - 2018 Polaris RZR XP 1000 & XP-4 1000 and 2016 - 2017 XP Turbo & XP-4 Turbo models, including those equipped with aftermarket skid plates and/or rear trailing arm guards. Made in USA.
NOTE: If you are considering one of the $100 voltage regulator relocation kits for your 2014 - 2016 RZR, remember that these aftermarket kits still leave the fuse block and main wiring harness exposed under the driver's seat. This Electrical System & Voltage Regulator Guard is less expensive and protects all of these critical electrical system components.

2016 RZR voltage regulator guard
I had to alter the fit of guard, my wire harness wasn’t long enough to reroute. Dealer might have changed at recall. Nice product Thank you
