Thunderhawk Performance invented the first RZR Fuel Tank Skid Plate in 2007. In 2014 Polaris released the RZR XP 1000 with the fuel tank exposed just like all other RZR’s before. Take a look under your XP Turbo-S and you'll see that the rear half of the fuel tank is totally unprotected! It only takes one rock or stick to damage the fuel tank, which can leave you stranded. Plus, a new fuel tank costs almost $800 !!!
This Thunderhawk Performance Fuel Tank Guard is designed for maximum strength and to protect the fuel tank from all angles. Thunderhawk Performance manufactures all RZR Fuel Tank Guards from 1/8” thick aircraft-grade aluminum for maximum strength and light-weight. This aircraft-grade skid plate material is 50% stronger than the softer ornamental grades of aluminum (such as 3000-series diamond plate) that are frequently used for automotive accessories. Thunderhawk's aircraft aluminum provides the strength and protection necessary even if the vehicle's weight is being supported as you slide over a trail obstacle.
We have designed the Thunderhawk Fuel Tank Guard to protect all areas where the RZR XP Turbo-S fuel tank is exposed to damage. Each of these important areas is worthy of mention. The Thunderhawk Fuel Tank Guard covers the bottom of the fuel tank where the factory skid plate leaves the fuel tank completely exposed, and aftermarket UHMW skid plates offer minimal additional protection. This bottom-side section of the Thunderhawk Fuel Tank Guard is attached to the frame to provide a strong "skid-plate" surface that will not bend and can support the RZR even when it is sliding over obstacles in the trail. The Thunderhawk Fuel Tank Guard also covers the back-side of fuel tank where the tank is exposed to rocks and debris thrown from the rear tire. This rear section is designed to eliminate openings at the top that can actually "scoop" rocks and debris thrown by the tire and trap them between the Fuel Tank Guard and the fuel tank.
Even if you have installed aftermarket skid plates, they only cover part of the bottom-side of the fuel tank. This leaves the complete back-side of the fuel tank and the remainder of the bottom-side still exposed to damage. The Thunderhawk Fuel Tank Guard is a wise investment even for RZR's that have aftermarket skid plates.
The Thunderhawk Performance RZR Fuel Tank Guard installs easily in about 20 minutes. This part is available in bare aluminum or with optional black powdercoat finish (adds $10.00). This is a complete kit including the fuel tank guard and all necessary hardware and illustrated instructions.
