Thunderhawk Performance has developed this battery mount kit to allow owners of the Kawasaki Mule 600, 610, 610 XC, and all Mule SX models to install a larger battery. The small factory-installed battery requires frequent maintenance and has been known to fail unexpectedly. A larger, high-capacity battery is required when running winches. lights, stereos, or other common accessories, and is a great addition even on a stock Mule when it's time to replace the original battery.
Thunderhawk's Battery Mount Kit makes the installation of a larger battery easy, there is no cutting or drilling required. Simply bolt the Thunderhawk battery mounting plate in the stock battery location with the supplied bolts and install your new battery using the Thunderhawk battery hold-down bracket supplied in this kit. These parts include isolation pads (just like the factory battery mount) to isolate the battery from vibration and are powdercoated black to resist rust and corrosion (silver shown for photo clarity).
Some people have asked....Why can't I just put a larger battery in the stock location (without a battery mount upgrade)? In fact, we've seen people try this, and it works for a while. Here's the problem....The stock battery tray that's welded to the Mule's frame is smaller than the new larger battery. This leaves the new battery hanging over the edge of the stock battery tray and the plastic battery case ends up deforming or cracking at this point. So, this new larger battery fails from internal damage, or it may crack and leak acid. Either way, you need another new battery, and hopefully you were not stranded somewhere away from the garage/shop/barn. This is why we designed this Battery Mount Kit, to provide a reliable system for installing a larger battery that's easy to install.
The Thunderhawk battery mount kit provides a solid mounting platform with proper isolation pads for larger batteries. The most popular choice for a battery upgrade for the Mule (at a reasonable cost) is to install a common lawn-mower battery, which is available at any local auto parts store in standard and high-capacity configurations. If you want to spend more money on a high-end battery, the Thunderhawk battery mount kit will also fit the Odyssey 925 battery. We've had great luck just using a good, name-brand lawn-mower battery.
Thunderhawk's battery mount kit includes factory-style vibration pads and is powdercoated for corrosion resistance. This is a complete bolt-on kit, including all hardware and illustrated instructions. Made in USA.
Please note: The photos showing the battery tray installed on the Mule have the side panel removed (to show the battery & tray). The side panel is re-installed after installation of the battery tray and the new, larger battery. Everything fits behind the stock side panel for a "factory" appearance.
