Thunderhawk UTV Racing

at Rolling W Ranch

 

2018 Competition Rules 

 

Important Note:

The website for the Rolling W Ranch race track has not been updated, and the UTV class rules listed on the track website are out-of-date.  The rules listed here are the most current rules for all UTV's racing in the Thunderhawk UTV series at Rolling W Ranch.

 

General Overview –

All UTV racing classes are reserved for factory-built, 2 or 4 passenger, 4wd UTV's available for sale through local powersports dealers. Vehicles with automotive, snowmobile, or street-bike engines are not permitted in the UTV classes.

 

Stock

1S. Engine –

  • Engine must remain completely stock
  • Stock exhaust and muffler must be retained (cannot be modified)
  • Stock air inlet and airbox must be retained (aftermarket replacement air filter element is OK)
  • Any external or internal engine modifications are prohibited
  • Computer modifications and EFI tuning is prohibited 

 

2S. Suspension –

  • Suspension must remain stock
  • Aftermarket shocks, springs, sway bars and custom shock valving are prohibited
  • Replacement A-arms, trailing arms and radius rods are acceptable if they retain the stock dimensions
  • All factory suspension pivot points on the chassis must remain in the stock locations, but may be reinforced

 

3S. Chassis –

  • Full, factory-stock frame required
  • Chassis reinforcements are permitted
  • Factory-installed roll cages are accepted (aftermarket roll cages are recommended)

 

4S. Wheels & Tires -

  • Aftermarket wheels are permitted
  • Aftermarket tires are permitted

 

5S. Safety –

  • Factory-installed 3-point seat belts accepted (4 or 5-point harnesses recommended)
  • Doors and side nets sufficient to adequately contain the driver’s arms and legs inside the vehicle are required
  • Helmet required
  • Long pants and long sleeve shirt required

 

6S. Other Items -

  • Common accessories that do NOT improve performance are permitted.  These are the parts that are typically installed on trail-ridden machines, such as: bumpers, winches, skid plates, CV guards, windshields, doors, roofs, and other similar accessories.  Any products that improve overall vehicle performance (ie. engine or suspension modifications) will cause the vehicle to be bumped to the appropriate "Modified" class.

Modified & Modified Turbo

 

1M. Engine (Modified) –

  • External and internal engine modifications are permitted
  • Aftermarket or factory-installed turbocharger, supercharger, or nitrous systems are prohibited
  • Engine swaps are prohibited

 

1MT. Engine (Modified Turbo) –

  • External and internal engine modifications are permitted
  • Aftermarket or factory-installed turbocharger, supercharger, or nitrous systems are permitted
  • Engine swaps are prohibited

 

2M. Suspension –

  • Aftermarket suspension parts and long-travel kits are permitted
  • Aftermarket shocks, springs and sway bars are permitted
  • All factory suspension pivot points on the chassis must remain in the stock locations, but may be reinforced

 

3M. Chassis –

  • Factory-stock frame may be modified
  • Suspension pivot points must be retained, but may be reinforced
  • Aftermarket roll cages are recommended

 

4M. Wheels & Tires -

  • Aftermarket wheels are permitted
  • Wheel spacers are permitted
  • Aftermarket tires are permitted

 

5M. Safety –

  • 4-point or 5-point racing harnesses required (5-point harnesses recommended)
  • Doors and window nets sufficient to adequately contain the driver’s arms and legs inside the vehicle are required
  • Helmet required
  • Racing fire suit required
  • Fire extinguisher required. One fully-charged 2.5 lb. ABC-class dry chemical type fire extinguisher with gauge should be mounted so that it is easily accessible from inside the vehicle and cannot be damaged during a rollover.
